RESEARCH INTERESTS

The development and maintenance of normal tissues and organs requires an adequate balance in internal, external and chemical conditions to maintain cellular homeostasis. Defects in any of these basic processes can lead to disease. For example, uncontrolled cell proliferation or failure to initiate programmed cell death can lead to cancer. On the other hand, persistent cell cycle arrest triggered by intrinsic and extrinsic stimuli would causes cell senescence, a process of deterioration with age. We are interested in understanding the molecular processes that regulate the live and death of cells. We also create therapeutic molecular entities for the treatment of aging-associated diseases including cancer. Current research focus in the laboratory include:

  1. Discovery and development of anti-cancer drugs that target cancer driver proteins
  2. Understanding cell cycle regulation in human diseases including cancer and aging-associated disorders
  3. Development of aging and anti-aging mouse models
  4. Discovery and development of drugs combating aging-associated muscle loss
